Wayne Miles Shirk - The Chattanoogan
Mar 6, 2019Wayne was born on June 18, 1930 in McPherson, Kansas and spent most of his life in Chattanooga. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. Wayne retired from Cargill, Incorporated after a long and rewarding career. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church. Wayne had a lifelong passion for golf, bridge, and fishing. He is best remembered for his hearty laugh, lively stories, and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. Wayne is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Shirk; daughter, Carolyn (Randall) Funderburk; sons, Stephen (Bonnie) Shirk and James (Sandra) Shirk; sister, Donna Bell; grandchildren, Thomas (Priya) Funderburk, Logan Funderburk, Tanner (Kelly) Shirk, Hunter Shirk, Talbot Shirk, Owen (Mary Rachel) Shirk, and Anna Shirk. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, March 9, 2019 in the chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home. Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date. His family will receive friends from 10 a.m.–noon on Saturday, March 9, 2019 prior to the service at the funeral home.
